First of all if you don't have a computer w/ Windows XP you can't run the software. Secondly you have to change your security settings to WEP. which was top of the line in 1999. This means your network is going to be less secure.
Even sitting on the router itself, this thing didn't even pick up enough signal to run a laptop's internet. This thing was horrible. I bought it to play online through XBox Live. Don't buy it. It's a waste of money and you can get something better for cheaper if you look.
I also have the Linksys Wireless N Dual Band gaming adaptor, BUT sometimes this one is better. But it has been really good to me. If the left light lit up (and DIDN'T flash). This is old technology. It will get you online with a computer, or it will get you on Xbox LIVE.
This thing was hooked up to so many different Xbox's, PS2's, 360's, and computers its not funny. So if you have both adapters, you are set. Wireless B is old, YES I KNOW. If we wanted to make a phone call, we would turn this adapter on, and if there was a light on the device, we could make phone calls using our Vonage. So this 11MB wireless b adapter is really all you need. That's it. (I have a EEE PC 901 now. you had a good unsecure signal and you could start playing Xbox Live.
Like I said, this thing is a few years old. I had my Vonage adapter, Home Phone, and this adapter in the car. I love this thing. Before I didn't, so if the wirelss signal only worked near the window, but the desktop was far away from the window, you were out of luck).A couple years ago, While traveling out of state, I had an inverter in my car.
But with a 16MB connection, I can only download at 2MB+ a second using a wired connection and a download accelerator. Because this one does NOT require a computer to set up. If there is a unsecure signal in reach, this baby picks it up and gets you online in just a few seconds after powering it up. I bought this adapter a few years ago back when Area 51 for the Xbox came out and Killzone for the playstation 2 came out. (Just drive up to a place that says "Free Wifi").Long story short, this adapter is old. But it still works great and its all you really need. NO CONFIGURATION AT ALL is needed, UNLESS you are using WEP. (If you are using WPA, you need to downgrade to WEP.
But it does that well). I would bring my Xbox 1 over to a family or friends house and turn this adapter on. I have had this thing for about 5 years or so. WHY. With the 99 dollar Wireless N Dual Band Adapter, you HAVE to have a computer to set it up. Ir only handles unsecure and WEP Wireless. NEVER ONCE, have I needed a computer to set it up to access an unsecure signal.
Every once in a while, Linksys gets it right. I had to go online and chat with a linksys tech, and he set me straight on how to do it. This was not one of those times. Their setup procedure isn't even close to being right. I'll outline it here for you and save you the trouble:Set your computer to a static ip address of 192.168.0.005Plug your WGA11B into that computer's LAN portRun the WGA11B setup utility.Please note that this WGA11B will only work with WEP security.There you have it. Once it's configured it works as advertised.jrv
Great deal. Does the job for less than half the money for the original MS product. Easy to setup with the included and online instructions.
